I read a very interesting article titled "what's a modern girl to do?"..
the article traces the journey females have gone through the years from the 30s to the present world. changing from the submissive, house wife types to the bra burning feminists they have traveled a full circle to arrive back as home makers and baby care takers..
far from fighting the portrayal of women as sex toys and fantasy items in magazines or other medium, women are generally striving to mirror the featured women. these and a lot more issues are mentioned in the article..
reading it disturbed in some parts.. is this where we finally reach after journeying so far? having things comes to a point where having a career decreased our chance of getting married and kids? or that our IQ is inversely proportional to our chances of dating?
is this why as i look around in my surroundings, i see girls who treasure their independence and strive to succeed and move up in life being single and those willing to submit themselves, their lives and be the maternal girl for their guys attached? this is just an observation and not a generalization. frankly i am a girl who falls into the former category. some friends used to ask how come i was single for so long. upon hearing that i just hadn't found the right person many a times i was told to lower my expectations.. that such a guy was near impossible to find. yet a guy can demand a girl who can cook, take care of the house and kids, manage his life, work, look good at corporate parties and turn it up in the bedroom..
so really are we back to the age of inequality of the genders? and has this move backwards been brought about by us females ourselves?
i don't really have the answers.. i urge you to read the article and try to find the answers yourself...
